Nurturing your hydroponic marijuana sprout is the most critical part of growing. Water your plants with nutrient filled water which is at the right pH. You begin nurturing by watering the plants every couple of days when the sprout is still young and end up by watering once a day towards the end of the flowering cycle.
When watering, you should ensure that a little extra run-off water drains from the bottom of the plants to make sure that the plant doesn’t get saturated with nutrients. Coco coir and perlite give allowances when you accidentally over or under water your plant, but you should ensure you immediately adjust your watering schedule once you notice any wilting or drooping.

Maintain your plants in the vegetative state of growth until they are half their final desired height. You can keep them in this vegetative state of growth by exposing them to 18-24 hrs. of light a day. Marijuana and most other plants have two stages of growth post-seedling, the vegetative and flowering stages. During the vegetative stage, the plant is only growing, and to keep them at this stage, they need as much as 24 hours of light a day but with 18-24 hrs. they will still do fine. The height of the plant is the primary factor that determines how long you maintain your marijuana in the vegetative state. You can conveniently double its height in the flowering stage so you should keep it in the vegetative state until it’s about half the desired height.

Once your cannabis plant has reached the desired height, you then activate the flowering stage by changing to a 12 hour of light/ 12 hours of darkness schedule, so they begin producing buds. Flowering is the stage of marijuana growth which produces the most THC, CBN and CBD, the active ingredients which produce a high. In this flowering stage, the plant does more of flowering and less of growing. In the wild, cannabis plants begin flowering when the days start getting shorter in preparation for the winter season but you can start flowering once the plants are at least 6 inches high and have a minimum of 4 sets of leaves.
One to two weeks after changing the lights for flowering, you should determine the gender of your plants. Female plants are identified by their white hairs which they grow while males are identified by their grape-like balls which eventually become pollen sacs. Once you have determined the sex of your plants, you should get rid of any males which you find in the bunch as the male seedlings pollinate females, causing them to start diverting energy from THC production to growing seeds. Pollinated weed is sure smoke-able, but it gives a less potent high.
We hope you enjoy nurturing your hydroponic marijuana sprout!
