Harvesting and Curing Your Marijuana

The right time to begin harvesting and curing your marijuana is when about 50-75% of the white pistils/hair has turned amber/brown. You could also harvest when the trichomes are either all white/milky or half amber and half white. Once you decide your plants are ready for harvesting, do so by cutting down the whole plant or pieces of buds at a time.

Once you have harvested, you then trim your plant with the clean, sharp Fiskars 8 Inch Razor-edge Softgrip Scissors to ensure no leaves are sticking out as leaves make your final smoke much harsher and contain less THC so they should be avoided in your final product. However, you should not throw the trimmings away as they are often loaded with trichomes and if you decide not to smoke them, you can make great edibles from them.

Once you have trimmed your buds, hang them upside down in a cool, dark place and let them dry until the buds can snap off cleanly once you put pressure on them. After that, put the buds in an airtight container, which you can find through our link. Open the jar once a day to let some air and ventilation in and ensure you release any moisture found in it. You could also store your marijuana in a fridge, basement or closet; the general idea is to get somewhere cool and dry to get the job done. Moisture is an enemy of curing as it will result in mold formation so you should ensure your buds are well dried before curing them.

Harvesting and curing your marijuana just takes a bit of care and patience.  Different strains cure at different rates, and you would observe that once correctly stored, your weed gets better with time. A good cure is the finishing touch to all your hard work in the grow room and once done right is a standard for future curing.
